meet hamish rayner- our latest colour crews ‘smiggle choice’ winner!

ok so choosing the latest colour crews SMIGGLE CHOICE AWARD winner was extremely tricky! the entries were unbelievably good, and totally inspiring, so thank you to everyone who entered! we had the best time playing them on our head office projector and picking the winner.

and so who is the winner? … it’s HAM 17! we were so impressed with the time and effort that went into this entry, not to mention how cool the little claymation guy is- nice work Hamish Rayner!

we were curious to know more about this entry and so asked Hamish a few questions. here’s what he said! we hope you enjoy his video, and the rest of our colour crews entries as much as we did!

where do you live Hamish?

warnambool, Victoria

and how old are you?

14

what inspired you to enter this competition?

i really just entered for something fun to do, i really never actually thought I would win anything!

and what was the inspiration for your entry?

the inspiration to create a claymation for my entry came from wallace and gromit and the other cool claymations from Aardman.

how did you go about making your claymation? and how long did it take?

it took me a few weeks to complete. i had to make my guy twice, first in white and then in blue. they were made out of plasticine around a wire and foil frame. then i constructed my set out of wood and drew the background on paper and stuck it on. then i started to film my claymation. i took around 250 pictures, having to painstakenly move the guy in between every shot. finally i got my claymation on to the computer. i recorded most of the sounds like the footsteps, the door and the ball in audacity, which is a free sound editor program. i created the music myself on garageband and then to finish off, i put it all together in windows movie maker.

what’s your best creative tip for making a claymation?

keep is simple. start off with simple people and a simple set and of course, have fun!

what’s your favourite smiggle product?

It’s hard to say what my favourite Smiggle product is because there is always something new but I’m going to have to say all the different pens.

what’s your local smiggle?

Geelong is our closest store but we are more likely to ‘Smiggle’ when in Melbourne.

what makes you smile and giggle the most in life?

hmmm.. probably my best friend Bill or my mum, they’re both pretty funny
